Adele wins big at the 2012 Grammy Awards

Wins in each of the six categories she was nominated in
LOS ANGELES, February 13, 2012: To say that Adele won big at the 54th annual Grammy Awards would be an understatement. The pop sensation took home six Grammy Awards, winning in each of the six categories she was nominated in, including album of the year for "21" and best record for "Rolling In the Deep". Adele did not miss a beat since having surgery on her vocal chords as her performance of "Rolling in the Deep" received a standing ovation inside the Staples Center.
A glowing Adele described the universality behind her award winning album, 21: "This record is inspired by something that is really normal and everyone's been through it, just a rubbish relationship, and it's gone on to do things I can't tell you how I feel about it, it's been the most life-changing year."
The sudden passing of pop legend Whitney Houston over the weekend hung heavy over the Grammy Awards. Houston's death put the show's Producers into scramble mode, altering the telecast schedule to accommodate a tribute to Whitney Huston which was performed by Jennifer Hudson. Many artists paid tribute to the late singer in their acceptance speeches and Host LL Cool J offered a prayer for Houston's Family, Fans, and Friends: "We’ve had a death in our family...a prayer for a woman we loved, for a fallen sister.”
Hudson, one of countless singers influenced by Whitney Houston's sound, sung her heart out in an emotional rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" that moved the audience.
Mentions were also made for late “Soul Train” founder Don Cornelius and jazz-poet Gil Scott-Heron, as well as an Alicia Keys & Bonnie Raitt tribute to Etta James.
The evening featured other performances by Chris Brown who returned to the Grammys after a three year hiatus, Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, The Beach Boys who reunited with Brian Wilson for the first time in several decades, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and others. Toronto- based songstress Melanie Fiona also picked up two Grammy awards for her collaboration with Cee Lo Green: Toronto's own Melanie Fiona wins two Grammy Awards
