TIFF 2011: Gifting for a Cause at Bask-It-Style

TORONTO, September 29, 2011: Located in the showroom of the newest of new hotel hotspots, the Bask-It-Style Lounge at The Shangri-la Presentation Space was full of goodies and good causes. Stars spotted checking out the swag included Jason Priestly, and Jonathan and Drew Scott.
Notables blo-ing through the lounge got their hair beautified at Blo, North America’s original blow dry bar. Blo’s expert “bloers” (aka stylists) offer a hair menu of seven signature styles ranging from skyscraper straight to the classic Hepburn coif. The deal here is simple: Pick a style. Pay $35. Wash. Blow. Go. With conveniently placed locations around the city, this place is a socialite’s (or overworked, hurried journalist’s) dream.
The train of timesaving treats continued with Mèreadesso’s skincare line. I’ve taken home their products from other lounges, and can tell you these babies work to make clear, timeless skin easy. Whether you have meetings or a really, really comfortable bed, Mèreadesso’s single-step solutions are refreshing in a cosmetics world obsessed with routines that have more specialties than Susur Lee.
However, my favourite thing about this lounge wasn’t the products, décor, or loot bags. In a refreshing and grounded move, Bask-It-Style used its lounge to support two worthy charities: Windfall and Hope 4 Help.
Windfall provides new basics (clothing, personal items) for those in need for the purpose of alleviating poverty and fostering human dignity. Call it gifting to those who actually need and appreciate it. They’re the organization behind Bay Street Suits Up 4 Windfall, and also host several other events throughout the year. Check them out at http://www.windfallbasics.com
Hope 4 Help is a non-profit organization that increases awareness of the need for aid in Kenya’s Maweni Village. These modern day saints are behind everything from building new schools to food nourishment programs. Learn more about their work at http://www.hope4help.ca.
