"The Artist" named Best Film of 2011; generates huge Oscar buzz
The New York Film Critics Online have named The Artist Best Movie of The Year for 2011. TDot TV’s Jeremy Singer caught up with the Film’s Director, Michel Hazanavicius, during the Toronto International Film Festival, who has also received the Best Director honour. The film is making huge Oscar buzz, which could potentially catapult Michel Hazanavicius and Actress Berenice Bejo into the Hollywood stratosphere.
Set in Hollywood’s golden age of the 1920s, The Artist tells the story of a silent movie star, George Valentin, who struggles with the change brought by the arrival of sound in film. The film is a romantic black-and-white silent comedy/melodrama/musical that offers everything from larger than life glamour to laughter. Creating a silent film in the modern era of 3D and computer generated animation was a gutsy move by Michel Hazanavicius; one that is proving to be fruitful.
